Welcome back to The Black Church Leadership Podcast. I’m your host, Jonathan Rivers, and as we approach the end of 2024, we’re taking time to reflect, recharge, and refocus for the year ahead. Today’s episode, titled “Finishing Strong: Empowering Pastors to Lead with Vision in the New Year,” is all about helping pastors and leaders end this year with gratitude and start 2025 with clarity and renewed purpose.

We’ll reflect on the victories of 2024, share lessons learned, and provide practical tools to help you cast a bold vision for your ministry in the year to come. Joining me, as always, is my co-host, Bishop Martin Wilson, who brings wisdom and actionable insights to the table. Bishop Wilson, welcome!

Segment 1: Reflection and Gratitude

Host Jonathan Rivers:

Bishop Wilson, as we near the end of the year, let’s take a moment to reflect. What are some key lessons you’ve learned in 2024, and how have you seen God’s faithfulness in ministry?

Bishop Martin Wilson:

Jonathan, for me, 2024 was truly a remarkable year. One of the highlights was the launch of the College of Sacred Servants. While it’s technically a college of bishops, we’ve opened it up to all clergy, creating a space where both future and current leaders can learn and grow. This year was all about laying the foundation. We hosted several impactful events and introduced a leadership academy as part of the college.

One of the most significant programs we offered was a 12-week catechism class. It was designed to train and prepare several bishops for their consecration, and it was an incredible experience to see leaders equipped and empowered for the work God has called them to.

This Saturday, we’ll also wrap up an 8-week leadership intensive. It’s been such a privilege to train several new leaders within our college, along with elders from another reformation. Seeing their growth and readiness to step into leadership roles has been deeply rewarding.

Another milestone this year was the relaunch of my own reformation, Ecclesia Ecumenical Leadership. Through this work, we consecrated three new bishops and one overseer. It’s been a humbling experience to witness God’s hand in bringing these leaders into their divine assignments.

The key lesson I’ve learned this year is this: don’t let your dreams just exist in your head. There are people God has positioned to come alongside you and help bring those dreams to life.

You have to dream big and trust that God has the right people ready to support you. When your dream benefits others and builds up the Body of Christ, it will bring increase and glorify His name. This year taught me that stepping out in faith and pursuing the vision God gives you will always yield fruit, especially when you surround yourself with those who share your passion for kingdom work.
